WTF!? Hope the USA goes bankrupt soon. This is just sickening.

Obama did this to an extent, but it wasn’t enough.

You’re a moron.

Why did Clinton lose? I’ve seen / read arguments for all of the following:-

  1. demographics - unexpected turnout of the white-collar workers for Trump, unexpected turnout of women for Trump (amazing), low turnout of Af. American vote for CLinton despite having nearly 90% of it

  2. literal vs serious? the media took Trump literally at every turn but not seriously (“we’re going to build a wall” - probably won’t happen). Trump’s white voter base just took him seriously rather than literally (‘we want something different’)

  3. inbuilt misogynism of the white american male, not willing to accept a woman (any woman) in the white house. Too much ‘whitelash’ shock factor after absorbing a black man in the white house. 62% of america is still white

  4. broader concerns of the failings of neoliberalism and multiculturalism, paving the way for a more isolationist future

  5. the media helped Trump as much as hindered him, pandering to the celebrity, to the insults and ‘personality of politics’ that occupied most people’s thoughts, so that Trump’s general weakness in dictating policy was parked to one side

  6. this was really all about first time voters in rural county America rejecting the urban coastal elite

It happens often because you’ve got a super left state like California which turns out like 60/30 in her favor with a huge population. Trump was in the lead comfortably throughout the night on popular vote until the California vote came in. Tbh it’s not very rare for this to happen. Bush lost the popular vote to Gore in 2000 as well.

Trump’s a fucking disaster for me anyway, from a non-US citizen perspective my two particular worries would be firstly his attitude towards the environment after relatively progressive years under Obama. Too much work has bee done culminating under the Paris accord for this moron to ruin things because he can’t or won’t listen to intelligent science.

Secondly the impact on lgbt legislation and abortion once the supreme court swings his way. America’s definitely about to take a backwards step in terms of being a progressive society.

You should think again. The only thing that would turn out more pissed off white Americans than Hillary would be a socialist. It would have been slaughter.

and also, for as much as we’re hearing that it was ‘educated white America’ as well as the epsilon semi-morons that voted him in, it was amazing watching the coverage last night. Whenever the reporters were interviewing the Trump supporters on the street, it was always going back to the classic:-

“Why did you vote for Mr Trump?” “Because he’s going to make America great again, because he says what people want to hear”

= I’m actually too ill-informed to really know why i’m voting for Mr Trump, but those buzzwords sure sound good

I agree, Trump would’ve beaten either Democrat candidate soundly.

If Sanders had mobilised Af American voters more, he may equally not have gained as many white women as Clinton did.

You are probably right. I kept thinking that Sanders would have won this easily, but my political science dude that called this weeks ago had Bernie losing to every GOP candidate. Even Rubio and Cruz.

I immediately thought the same. They consider politics a big show.

Let’s see what the GOP can do. Let’s remember he basically won as indipendent.

This imo is such bullshit. Maybe I’m just naive as to the other parts of this country because I do live in LA and race/sex isn’t as big a deal here. However for me it seems that economy was the same concern here. If a black woman with the same message of briging jobs back and helping the average middle/working class american been running for prez, she’d have won as well.

My first choice was Bernie, and when he didn’t get the nomination, I wanted Stein. Of course she was never going to win, but as far as policies go she was the closest. Man, Woman, Jew, black, whatever is going to keep my family safe with food in our mouths is the main concern for me and I think for most other people.

The GOP are as much to blame for Donald Trump as the morons that voted him in, they have a lot of soul searching to do, given you effectively now have 3 wings of the party in dispute.

Both major parties have problems and in the midst you have a reality TV star that’s stolen a march on both of them.

Is this real life or a Ben Elton novel? :expressionless:
