The Other Premier League Fixtures Thread (old)

Chadli puts WBA ahead. Leicester are in deep shit.
Leicester are terrible compared with 2 seasons ago.
1-1 Mahrez.
Pulis playing for the draw now.
That could have been a good chance to WBA.
1-1 FT.

Donā€™t know if anyones posted this yet but that gap is huge.

But it doesnā€™t matter when it comes to tactics and motivation.

Imo similar things have been posted over and over, it is just not accepted as an argument when comparing success

There have been points made about Pep and this gap. That City have spent ~Ā£140m every window the past three seasons, that his bench cost Ā£205m vs Brighton (5 times more than their entire team), that his 4 season spell at Barca barely net them more stuff than the 4 year spell before/after him (maybe it was more down to Xavi - Iniesta - Messi aligning) ~the same thing goes for his time at Bayern (slightly better in league, worse in Europe, higher spending) etc.

Mou had a patchwork to deal with at Man U in his defence, an aging past-its-best group where two (three) entirely different managers had started building squads intended for different purposes before him. Mou has a clear and boring strategy that is successful and you can tell he mostly buys the right type of players suited for it, so far he only has a tier 2 trophy but heā€™ll spend til he wins Iā€™m sure.

Chelsea have been doing this longer than the rest but had a smarter business plan from the start loaning out young talent and making money back selling them. Several managers did well there, Conte clearly did well his first season but look more shakey now. Pochettino has good momentum and is doing admirable and exciting work but still hasnā€™t won shit, Klopp had less points than Brendan Rogers after their first 72 (iirc?) games and 1 more point than Benitez in a more competitive league and still hasnā€™t won shit and Leicester sunk like a brick.

Then thereā€™s us, we canā€™t spend close to what Chelsea/MCFC/MUFC spend. That war chest people have been yapping about for ages isnā€™t our managerā€™s allowance. It is someone elseā€™s fucking money/profit/bank that they decide what to do with, and theyā€™ve decided we get to spend closer to Ā£40m than Ā£400m. Weā€™re on a ā€˜sustainable modelā€™ because thatā€™s how daddy rolls. No new manager would get more money over a longer period. Board likes Wenger because with relatively little money he still gets something done. Theyā€™re happy, charge high gates, fans are furious at le boss for not beating teams that outspend us over and over though they pay a lot for tickets, the board lul even more.

tl:dr; gap is huge but on a constructive note - imo if we want to win stuff continuously we need to spend like those who win do since FFP was bullshit and broad spending decisions are made by our owners, not our manager, so direct barking up the right tree. Or hope we do a Blackburn/Leicester/Deportivo/Lazio etc. once every other decade.

You are bound to run out of tissue papers one day.

Our starting 11 was missing out Ā£77m two big stars and our Ā£35m centre back.

Thatā€™s Ā£112m worth of talent we didnā€™t have in the starting 11.

Then Liverpool were missing Mane, United missing Pogba, Fellaini and Baillyā€¦ Chelsea missing Morataā€¦

Well, I guess they might be a collectorā€™s item now

Said he wouldnā€™t last, heā€™s pants.

A primary school teacher couldā€™ve got Leicester out of the hole they were in last season.

I never got the sense they really wanted to give him the job in the first place. Such a waste of time.

Im loving these shit relegation fodder sides firing managers like it means shit, lol. Cunts, hope they get relegated. Shoulda been loyal to the manager that dragged ur shit club to the PL title.

They have lost the plot after sacking Ranieri.

If they didnā€™t sack Raneri when they did last season theyā€™d currently be playing in the Championship though.

Good point, I didnā€™t really think about that but it still only closes the gap a little when you look at the amount of money (250mil) City had either sitting on the bench or out injured at the weekend.

Mendy 52mil
Bernardo Silva 43mil
Aguero 38mil
Mangala 32mil
Danilo 27mil
Yaya Toure 24mil
Gundogan 20mil
Bravo 14mil

The Premier League weekend starts with West Ham-Brighton today.

Cheers Geoff
