Other Clubs' Transfers

De Gea is WC, but sometimes he makes silly mistakes. Oblak looks almost perfect, instead.

88 million for Jan Oblak seems highly unlikely for any club. Let alone Arsenal.

No club is paying 80m+ for a goalkeeper.

Possibly ever.

Dea Gea rarely makes mistakes and Oblak is not perfect at all, he’s definitely helped by playing in such an excellent defensive set up.

Dea Gea with Neuer out is the best GK in world football for me.

Maybe we can offer lacazette and a bit of money for him then :stuck_out_tongue:

No. Top GK but It’s De Gea then the rest.

Like Messi, it’s not even close.

I think that mark will be reached within the next five years. If De Gea goes to RM, then it’ll certainly be reached.

Keeper is least skillful position on pitch and if those go for that amount, I fear for football

It’s more than a bit simplistic to say this, besides people are worth what they can negotiate.

There’s a dearth of available truly top keepers in the game, especially young ones and so their value will reflect this scarcity. That would be a monster fee and probably unlikely, however, if it happens in the future I won’t be surprised. There’s little difference in comparison to defenders now going for £50mil plus.

It’s a specialised position.

A great GK can earn you several points a season.
But the best GK’s are usually playing behind well organised and solid defences, like Cech was at Chelsea.

Until we get an organised defence, or a manager that knows how to do it, we might as well stick with Cech.

A great goalkeeper could carry on for 10(+) years. If we didn’t have so many other holes to fix I wouldn’t mind Arsenal paying 40/50 million for Oblak.

Nope. You’re wrong.

Which other position as per you has lesser skill in play?

A keeper’s skill cannot really be compared to an outfield player’s skill to be honest. Both are completely different skill sets.

I reckon there is good reason Ederson was sold for 35 million pounds. On one hand there are two ‘special’ tax clubs involved, but otherwise I think the importance of a proper GK is being recognised.

A good team can often get by with a passable keeper though. I know there’s a lot of hype around keepers but there’s a reason that they’re nowhere near the top earners. If you truly have a keeper that is consistently deciding games for you it probably means there’s something very wrong with the rest of the team. We got 84 points with Almunia (:expressionless:) because the rest of the team was functional.

They’re obviously somewhat important (as any player is) but the difference between having the 6th and 10th best keeper in the world is probably not as noticible as between the 6th and 10th best forward (if the rest of your team is competent).
