Yeah, afraid you’re probably right. Buying a player like Lemar for depth doesn’t seem like Wenger at all, so that leaves the two options you’ve suggested: preparing for Sánchez exit or just clickbait.

edit: eh, just realised this is from the day before Wenger’s further comments on Alexis. Dunno, those comments are so categorical that I think he is staying. Maybe he really is going all out for once with going after Lemar, or maybe it’s just media bs as you say.

Really not convinced he’s a great talent worth pursuing as hard as we apparently are, I don’t believe he moves the needle whatsoever.
I get the feeling you may be being a bit too hard on him because of how he shows up from an analytical/stats outlook (a bit like Santi maybe before it became obvious Santi was as good as he is?), from a scouts outlook I think everyone seems to agree he’s a fine talent, perhaps put in another environment, in the combination style Wenger tries for anyways, he might find another level.
If our strong pursuit isn’t bs, Wenger certainly seems to have earmarked him, and although I certainly don’t have complete faith in Wenger him earmarking a player means I’d probably give him the benefit of the doubt and believe there’s an important player there.

Not sure it’ll happen but going into the window I thought there was a chance Bale moves, great player but far too often injured (1.7k & 1.4k mins last two league campaigns) with peak years soon to be behind him.

I watched games, listened thoughts, compared stats… in my opinion the perfect Cazorla replacement do you know who is he? Cazorla. 
Carvalho il too similar to Xhaka, Lemar looks very good but too offensive for an all-round role, many journalists compare Seri with Kantè but I don’t know why because the current Chelsea player is a beast to defend and to break the lines, Seri not.
