Nah, he’s always been like this. Occasionally it’s irritated people (probably part of the reason Barça was always rumoured to cut ties with him long before they finally did), but tbh he strikes me as a relatively interesting guy for a footballer, and I didn’t see anything wrong with those comments, if anything I appreciated them and the honesty. As long as you are a professional and do your duties as a professional and play well, something it seems Álves has done by the fact that he’s been able to prolong his career this long and be appreciated at various clubs, I don’t see anything wrong whatsoever with being a bit philosophical like that and saying something taboo, that goes against the ‘footballers’ code’, in the media.
